CURRENT POSITION

Nishant Kashyap is currently serving as a Team Lead Engineer at Legend Power Systems in North America. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, he focuses on SiC power converters and the design and installation of smart distribution systems aimed at energy savings. His work includes projects such as the Washington ministerial building for the Department of Housing, Energy & Environment and the Alexandria Bay collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory under the US Department of Energy.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Before his current role, Nishant worked as a Senior Researcher in Power Electronics at BARCO Labs in Belgium, Norway, and Canada. His contributions at BARCO included developing power electronics architecture for energy-efficient LASER TVs using GaN devices and creating power electronics architecture for dynamic brightness in cinema projectors up to 15kW.

ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

Nishant holds a Ph.D. from McMaster University, Canada, where he specialized in power engineering for energy applications. His doctoral research involved working with GaN devices, high-frequency power conversion, and model predictive control of AC-DC converters. Additionally, he contributed to electric vehicle modeling and design and worked on high-power converters for energy applications.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Nishant has a solid teaching background, with a five-year prior teaching experience. He served as a Teaching Assistant at McMaster University, where he taught courses such as digital circuits and design, basic electronics, control systems, and power electronics. He also worked as an Assistant Professor and Lecturer at RGPV State Technological University in India, teaching courses on control systems, electric machines, power electronics, and basic electrical and electronics engineering.

RESEARCH CONTRIBUTIONS

As a Research Associate at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, Nishant worked on a project titled “Wide-Area Measurement & Control of Voltage & Reactive Power,” funded by the Central Power Research Institute, India. His research involved the optimal placement of PMUs (phasor measurement units) in existing power systems, focusing on the NRPG-246 Bus system based on various voltage collapse indexes.

INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE

In addition to his academic and research roles, Nishant has significant industrial experience. He worked as a Project Engineer at Medatech Engineering in Ontario, Canada, where he focused on electric vehicle modeling and design, as well as high-power converters for energy applications.

SKILLS AND EXPERTISE

Nishant’s expertise spans across power engineering for energy applications, power converters for electric vehicles and smart grid systems, and high-frequency power conversion using GaN devices. His comprehensive experience in both academic and industrial settings, coupled with his extensive research contributions, makes him a valuable asset in the field of power electronics and energy systems.
