EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Hongfei Yang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and Behavioral Science at Zhejiang University, where he also serves as the Director of the Master's Program in Counseling Psychology since August 2004. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2002 to 2003. Prior to this, he held the position of Associate Professor and Director of the Master's Program in School Counseling at Zhejiang University from 1998 to 2004. Dr. Yang pursued his PhD in Basic Psychology at Zhejiang University from 2001 to 2007, following his Master's studies in Counseling Services at the State University of New York at Oswego from 1994 to 1996. His early career included a role as a Youth Counselor at the Chinese American Service League in Chicago and a visiting scholar position at Kiel University, Germany. He began his academic journey as a Lecturer in Psychology at Hangzhou University (now Zhejiang University), where he also completed his undergraduate studies.

ACADEMIC MEMBERSHIP

Dr. Yang holds several esteemed academic memberships. He is the President of the Zhejiang School Psychology Branch Association under the Zhejiang Psychology Association. Additionally, he is a member of the Zhejiang Psychology Association, China Psychology Society, and the China Association for Mental Health, reflecting his active engagement in the academic community and his commitment to advancing the field of psychology.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

Dr. Yang has led numerous research projects focusing on mental health and counseling. His notable projects include "The Developmental Strategy for School Mental Health Education in Zhejiang Province," funded by the Philosophy and Social Science Fund of Zhejiang Province in 2000, and "The Outcome Assessment Model of Counseling for College Students" in 2001. His research also extends to topics such as school violence, perfectionism, coping strategies for sudden events, and the cognitive mechanisms of rumination, with significant support from various provincial and national funding bodies.

Dr. Yang has contributed to several important publications in the field of psychology. Notably, he co-authored a chapter in "The Handbook of Research on Student Engagement" and "Positive Psychology in Racial and Ethnic Minority Groups," published by the American Psychological Association. He also co-edited "The International Handbook of Positive Psychology," which offers a global perspective on the science of positive human existence, further cementing his influence and expertise in the field.

AWARDS

Dr. Yang's contributions to mental health education and research have been recognized with multiple awards. His work on the developmental strategy of school mental health education in Zhejiang Province earned him the First Class Prize of Higher Education Research of Zhejiang Province in 2003 and the Second Class Prize of Zhejiang Philosophy and Social Science in 2004. He was honored as an "Honorable Student Mentor" by Zhejiang University in 2007, and his innovative teaching methods were recognized with the Second Class Prize of Zhejiang University in 2016.
