Alexander B. Alexander B. Degtyarev graduated with honors from the Faculty of Shipbuilding at Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute, where he earned the title of Engineer Researcher in Hydrodynamics in 1985. He went on to receive his Ph.D. in 1991 from the same institution under the guidance of Alexander Kholodilin.
