ACADEMIC CAREER

Teresa Cotrim has been an Assistant Professor at the Ergonomics Section of the Human Kinetics Faculty (FMH) at the University of Lisbon since 1996. She holds a PhD in Ergonomics from the Technical University of Lisbon, with a thesis on Age and Work Ability among hospital nurses (December 2008). She also has a Master's degree in Public Health from the New University of Lisbon and a BSc in Ergonomics and Physiotherapy.

ROLES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LISBON

Teresa is the Head of the Ergonomics Department of the Human Kinetics Faculty (FMH) at the University of Lisbon since March 2019 and the Head of the Ergonomics Speciality in the Doctoral Course on Human Kinetics since February 2019. Additionally, she coordinates the Post-Graduation in Ergonomics in the Resilience of Occupational Systems and serves on the School Council and the Scientific Committee of the FMH.

INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATION

Teresa represents Portugal at the Centre for Registration of European Ergonomists (CREE) and the International Ergonomics Association (IEA) since 2018. She is also a member of the «Aging Technical Committee» of the IEA and has represented Portugal at the European Federation of Ergonomic Societies (FEES) from 2011 to 2018.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Teresa's research focuses on ageing, workability, and psychosocial risk factors. She studies ageing at work across various sectors, including hospitals, industries, and municipalities. Her work includes validating the Work Ability Index and the COPSOQ II and III for Portugal, and she has supervised numerous students in Ergonomics at the Human Kinetics Faculty.

SCIENTIFIC SUPERVISION

Teresa has supervised several PhD theses in Ergonomics, including the recently concluded research project by Ana Patricia Dionísio Pereira on work capacity in the Water, Sanitation, and Waste Sector. She is currently supervising ongoing PhD projects on psychosocial risk factors and workability in various industries.

MEMBERSHIPS AND LEADERSHIP

Teresa has been a member of the IPPHE (International Panel on Patient Handling Ergonomics) since 2004 and the Healthcare Ergonomics Technical Committee of the IEA since 1999. She has also served as the President of the Portuguese Ergonomics Association from 2011 to 2018 and was reappointed in 2021.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

Teresa has participated in numerous training programs to enhance her expertise, including the UNIDO Group Training Program on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants and the HIJ-COMSATS Workshop on Spectroscopic Techniques. These programs have significantly contributed to her professional growth and research capabilities.
